Happy Valentine's Day... and a furry fun GIVEAWAY!

Hey furry friends!
By the time you're reading this... I'll be off at "puppy camp" having a furry blast. I was so sad that I wouldn't be here for Valentine's Day, and really didn't want my raiser (or Al) to do the Valentine's Giveaway... so I decided to do a"Scheduled post", and write it before leaving :)
Enough about boring old news, I want to wish ALL my furry followers...
A VERY HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!
picture of Rudy's cute face eying one of the valentine's stuffies
I hope you all sent something to that "special one" in your life... for me, it's my furry cool puppy raiser - and I decided to give her early Valentine's Day slobbery kisses!
Sadly though, I can't give her any kisses ON Valentine's Day, due to the "puppy swap"... but early is better then never.
And now on to the GOOD part.
My raiser decided at the very last minute, to let me do a Valentine's Giveaway. She was so late in telling me the good news... that I wouldn't have enough time to end the giveaway before, or on Valentine's Day - so instead, I decided I'll start the giveaway on Valentine's Day, and it will end when I return from puppy camp.
Wanna know the prize??
TWO furry cool followers will win...
- A Valentine's themed stuffie (complete with a squeaker and crinkly sounds)
- A "Love me, Love my dogs" bumper magnetic for the humans car (thanks to Build a Sign)

- Some tasty homemade doggy treats
Picture of the dog toy & bumper magnetic

Picture of (uncooked) dog treats

Yes, you did read that right... my raiser is letting me open this giveaway for TWO lucky followers to win - and both winners will receive a doggy toy, bumper magnetic... and DOGGY TREATS!
The rules are very simple:
- Please be a follower of my furry cool blog
- To enter, just leave a comment on this post! (if you'd rather not be entered in the giveaway... please let me know in the comment)
- The giveaway opens 2-14-2011 (TODAY) and will end 3-1-2011 (after I return from puppy camp)
- If you would like to post this on your blog... that's furry fine by me!
- Wanna extra chance to win? Leave ANOTHER separate comment, with a short/long story of when you first met your pet/human (if there is more than one doggy/pet doing the blogging... you get EXTRA entries... just leave a separate comment for each pup/pet!)

See how simple those are?
As long as you're following my blog... and leave a comment, you're entered! It's that easy :)
And if you want more chances to win... make sure to leave another comment with the first time you laid eyes on your furry cool human (or pet) - or what made your parents decide to claim you as their own (adopt/buy/rescue/helping a friend).
*Giveaway ends on 3-1-2011
My raiser will be sending out reminders, and we have yet to decide how the 2 winners will be picked... but I know my raiser will let you all know on that, when she decides.

If you have any questions please let my raiser know (guidedogawareness AT yahoo DOT com), I know she's looking forward to seeing all the entries!
Happy Valentine's Day, and happy entering!

**If you do NOT have a blog for me to contact you by IF you win, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR EMAIL IS AVAILABLE IN YOUR PROFILE... IF NOT, PLEASE LEAVE IT IN A COMMENT**

This is extra entry #1 (so entry #2 in all) for the first time I met Arwen.

We bred my golden girl, Brandy, to another, very handsome Golden named Jake. I 9 at the time and very happy when Brandy's belly started getting really big with all the puppies inside of her. :) On January 2, 2002 at like 2am Brandy started giving birth. I was up and ready to help her through the process. She gave birth to 3 healthy boys and 5 healthy girls (and a stillborn male.) Arwen was the 5th puppy out. I of course wanted to keep all of them, but we couldn't. We finally decided on the fiesty, little thing. Little did we know that she would grow to be huge and scared of most everything. Even so, I love my big girl. :)

Raiser Erin said...

This is extra entry #2 (so 3 entries over all) for the first time I met Freya.

I waited for a very long time to get my first PIT. The date was pushed from August to September to October and finally to December 20. That date stayed and I learned I was getting a Black Lab female, Litter letter "F". I spent the good part of a month thinking of names for her until I thought, "Wouldn't it be great if her name was Freya!?" (my brother was spending a year in Sweden and Freya is a scandinavian goddess and I was readying a book where the main character's name was Freya) On Dec. 20 my dad and I drove up to GDB in San Rafael and went into the puppy kennels where I saw a bag that said our last name and the name "Freya 40T5 BLF". I was sooo excited I guesssed her name and even more excited when they placed a giant, fat black puppy in my arms. She licked me, did her business almost immediately, and slept the whole 3 hours home. Love at first sight? I think so.

So this is extra entry #3 (so 4 entries in all) for the first time I met Rocco.

After Freya wen back into to training on February 20, 2010 I really wanted another puppy to take the hurt away. My dad needed more persuasion though. We finally convinced him as long as Mary (my leader) would co-raise with me. So we got a date, but it was pushed up about 2 weeks because GDB asked us if we wouldn't make taking an older puppy earlier than scheduled. Of course we said yes and on April 10 we drove up to GDB to get our supposedly GIANT "R" puppy. When we got there one of the kennel techs said, "Are you guys here to get the "R" boys?" We nodded and their response was "Thank GOD!" Haha! Rocco and Rocky were apparently too big to play with the other puppies in the yard. Anyway, we met both of them before we picked them up and decided we liked the name Rocco better. Well, there was the bag in the kitchen with our last names and "Rocco 4Y13 MYL". We were so excited! He didn't do nearly as well as Freya on the ride back. He barked all the way pretty much and that didn't stop during the night. He was one vocal puppy, but still I loved him at first glance because of those sad, all knowing eyes. :)

Happy Valentine's Day! How sweet of you and your raiser to do a V Day giv away. I have a lot of dogs, so I will only pick two for extra entries as I do not want to be greedy. :)

Just Jess for now said...

Entry Number Two:
I met Glacier my second guide dog on September 24 2008. My instructor told me my dog's name, but nothing else. She took my leash and went to get my dog. When she came back a gigantic, male yellow labrador came thundering through my door and planted his even more gigantic paws on my chest and licked my face. I didn't even have time to call him to me he was in the door so fast. It was definitely love at first touch and lick. :)

Just Jess for now said...

Entry Number Three:
It was hard to pick who to tell you about next because all of my first meetings with my animals have been sooooo fantastic; at least to me. :)
I will tell you about Jetta, my first guide dog, since our meeting was the complete opposite of mine and Glacier's.
The process was the same with the instructor telling me nothing but her name and taking my leash and going to get her. When he came in the door, he told me to call "Jetta" and I did, but she was so excited and she was running so fast, she ran right past me and then promptly turned around and ran back to her trainer at the end of the leash. This first meeting was very indicative of what the rest of our time together would be like. She would always be running fast. :)

I met Mabel about six weeks after my rottweiler Maggie May died suddenly from cancer. I was heart broken one Sunday and drove to the pound "just to look." Mabel had been returned so many times, she was "on sale" - hysterectomy & microchip included - for $8. Best eight bucks I ever spent! I brought her home that day. She was so anxious to leave doggy jail, she read my face and correctly guessed my car. She went to it and would not budge until I let her in. Then she pooped... it was not a good start! It took a few years to adjust to my rambunctious pup. But I adore her.

What is most memorable about their coming to us is they were flown to us from Florida in a great big cage. Two teeny tiny 8 week old puppies in this huge cage. I was so anxious to get to them that I climbed in the cage and got stuck. My husband is probably still laughing about that in heaven!!!

Hey Rudy!

Here's how I met my Freud...I was out shopping on Black Friday and happened to wander into a pet shop and there he was, a beautiful salt & pepper miniature schnauzer. He was leaning against the crate and apparently had a cold because every time he breathed out, a little snot bubble appeared. After a brief debate with my husband, I brought the little guy home and he has been my baby ever since. I know we should have gone to get a shelter dog, but I felt so strongly about getting him out of that shop. And, in what I think was karma in action, a week after Freud came home with me, I won a contest on the radio and got back almost what I paid for him.

The first time I saw Sadie was a very special day. I adopted her without ever meeting her in person. I had only seen a picture online and talked to her foster mom. When I went to pick her up, she was very nervous, not sure what was going on. But the second we got in the car, she sat on my lap and gave me a big kiss on the face. It was love at first sight. Even to this day, she doesn't give anyone else kisses...She's my best bud!!

Want to hear how Mom fell in love with me before she adopted me? It was on Shawnee the Shep's blog! http://shawneetheshep.blogspot.com/ I was Shawnee's foster sister in Oct. 2009. Shawnee posted about me a couple of times, and my Mom was hooked!

Busy Buttons said...

First time I met my Mom was a pretty stressful day. I actually rode in the car with my foster mom and my foster sister, Shawnee, all of the way from New Jersey to Illinois. It was dark out and cold when we finally got to Illinois. My new Mom met us outside of a Subway. I was pretty nervous and a little freaked out because I'd had so many different homes and families. But when my new Mom put me in her car and drove me all of the way to her house, I saw all of the toys she had ready for me and I knew it as all going to be OK. Instead of being scared or hiding in my brand new house, I just dove into those toys and played!!!

There are ten of us, so make yourself comfy to read these comments.

#1 Morgan
My four brothers and sisters and I were born in a dog house outside. We didn't have much to d with humans except when they brought us a pan of food each day. One day a man visited the house on business and the lady who owned us showed us to him. The next day he came back and put me in a box in his car. My tummy got sick on the ride, but he was nice about it and cleaned me up.

When we were almost at his house, he called someone and asked if she had any puppy food. She did, so went went to his house and there I met my new Mom.

Sue said...

Morgan again

I had never been around humans very much and didn't like them much, but then I met my new brother Monty. He was just a little older than me and we played together and wrestled and curled up together for naps. Pretty soon I realized that my new Mom and Dad were really neat and took good care of me. I was so lucky to wind up here with lots of dog friends and humans who love me.

Sue said...

#2 Tsar

There were five of us pups and one morning the lady that owned our mama put us all in a box and took us to a shelter and left us. The lady that ran the shelter was loading her van to go to a Petsmart adoption event, so she stuck us in the van and took us along.

She put us in a cage together and we made a puppy pile and went to sleep. Some people came by and looked at us, but I didn't put my head up. Then a lady reached in for my sister and I lifted my head. The man said "look at that one" so she picked me up instead. She never put me down again.

Sue said...

Tsar again

I rode in my new Mom's lap all the way home and when we got there I was tired out, so my new Dad and I took a nap together. Then I met the other dogs in the family. We played all the time, but I got into a lot of bad trouble. Mom said I had separation anxiety and she gave me some medicine to calm me and then she took me to school where I learned to be a god boy.

I love my Mom and Dad.

Sue said...

Samba 1

I first met my Mom and Dad at a very busy airport in the middle of the day. There were lots of people around and I had been flying for a whole day so I was happy to get out of my carrier. Mom picked me up and took me outside to pee on the grass, then we walked around a little bit. People kept coming over to talk to me and asking questions about me.

Samba 2

I rode on my Mom's lap all the way home. It was about a three hour drive and we stopped so I could eat and pee. Mom and I bonded on that drive.

When we got home I met the other dogs in the family including Tsar who was only four months older than me. We had a great time together and got into lots of trouble until Mom took us to school.

Now I don't let Mom out of my sight. She's my special person.

Sue said...

Fudge 1

I cam to live here to be a show dog and to make puppies with Samba. Mom and Dad came to the airport to get me. I was happy to see them but kind of tired from my trip. We stayed in a motel overnight, then went home to meet the rest of the pack.

Sue said...

Fudge 2

I started the ride home on Mom's lap, but I was a little too active and she stuck me in my carrier for part of the trip. When we got home I met the other dogs I'd be living with, but I'm kind of a Mama's boy.

Mom and I have done a lot of training together and we have lots of fun.

Sue said...

Tess, Sky, Lola and Bailey

We were born here in our house. Samba is our mama and Fudge is our daddy. Mom was the first person that ever touched us. She helped Samba clean us and take care of us and she held us and fed us from a bottle. We knew her smell even before our eyes opened and we'd crawl toward her when she came into the room.

Sue said...

Tess, Sky, Lola and Bailey

As soon as our eyes opened we recognized our human Mom. She started feeding us solid food, and showed us how to play with toys. She'd let us out of our pen every night and let us run all over the kitchen. We usually peed all over the place, but she didn't say anything, just mopped up.

Our Mom is still our best friend.

Sue said...

Noah
I was the smallest puppy. I only weighted 5 ounces. Mom called me her little peanut and always made sure I got enough to eat. The bigger pups sometimes pushed me out of the way so they could get more milk, but Mom helped me. The others picked on me sometimes too because I was little and a bit slower than the others, but Mom watched out for me.

Sue said...

Noah 2

When my eyes opened up I saw Mom and knew she'd always take care of me. I stay close to her most of the time and if Fudge starts to pick on me, she makes him stop. She lets me eat and play with my sisters because they don't pick on me.

I love my Mom. Sometimes she still calls me her peanut.

Sue said...

Norma Jean 1

I was the last puppy born. Mom was worried about me because the pup before me was injured and didn't live. She was afraid I might be injured, too, but I was big and strong.

As soon as I sniffed Mom for the first time I knew I was going to be her special dog. If she came into the room I tried to get to her before anyone else. She held me a lot and told everyone I was her dog.

Sue said...

Norma Jean 2

When my eyes opened, I tried to get out of the box to go find Mom. I made it as far as the door when she saw me and picked me up. She told me I was special.

When Mom was in the room with us I would sit and watch her and not take my eyes off her. When she took us out to play the others would run around and wrestle, but I'd stay close to Mom.

Mom still says I'm her special dog and I know how much she loves me.

How I met Dixie-
My roommate and I had gone to the shelter to check out the dogs so I would have some idea of what I wanted to adopt when I returned from my month long study abroad in Australia. We also wanted to take some dogs out to play since they never get out of the kennels at this shelter. Dixie was the first dog we took out and it was love at first sight. We kept playing with her and taught her to sit in 20 minutes with no prior training. Then a volunteer came in and told us that she had her entire fee sponsored and didn't have much time left before her euthanasia date. That sold it, I ran up there and adopted her. She stayed with my parents until I got back!

I met Lola in my front yard. She was 5 weeks old, dehydrated and skinny. Someone had dumped her in my yard and Dixie heard her whining. She alerted me to it, we went searching and found Lola. Lola stole everyone's hearts and changed a lot of minds about pit bulls. She continues to charm the world today and shows that pit bulls are wonderful, lovable dogs!
