Bed Training... with videos!!

I betcha you never knew that there was a command for "BED"!
You may think that every dog knows that command by heart... but maybe not the exact way I do :)
What is the command 'bed"?
When my raiser gives the command "bed" I'm to find the closet dog bed and lay/sit/stand on it... until I'm given the command "okay/take a break/come". This ISN'T a "stay" command - as I'm allowed to play on the dog bed... and get up and move around (as long as some part of my body is touching the bed... I'm good!).
This command is quite helpful for my raiser when we have company over - eating dinner - playing games - watching TV - cooking - etc :) I can stay on the bed for a short time of 1 second... or a time of 2+ hours... all depends on what my raiser tells me!
I've known this command for quite awhile (back before November 2010), and my raiser thinks it is one of the best commands I know!
I can do this command on different beds... in different rooms... and with different people.
(Please not that this command is not a "have to" in the guide dog book - it's something the raisers CAN teach the dogs if wanted).
Enjoy the 2 movies below of me doing the "bed" command - both are in 2 different rooms, with 2 different beds.

Furry Thursday kisses,

Rudy

Rudy, you are such a smart boy! And so eager to please!! Good job! Riley knows a similar thing, but it's to go get on the big bed, not a dog bed. I tell her "go to bed" and she runs upstairs and gets on our bed. Not nearly as impressive as Rudy's commands where he can get on a different bed in a different room!

Awesome. When we got our first "family dog" 5 years ago, we had a trainer come in and help us with leash training, simple commands, etc. One of the commands was "place" same concept as "bed".
Our sweet Sadie still does it to this day!

Rudy you are very smart.
Here we say "go to your room" which is only one place. And it usually comes when someone doesn't listen to the quiet command. Or is too interested in what the kitties are doing.

My mom person says that I need to learn this one, cause I have poor manners when visitors come.

Wow Rudy you are so patient with your person- finding the bed over and over again. Waffle finds the bed once and then looks at me like 'I found it once for you, can't help it if you lost it again' ;)

Truf Truf silly labbie that she is still needs more practice on the whole bed thing.

Woof! Woof! Definitely a good command. I know it well. Surely a good command when you have company visiting. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

It's such a useful command and I think Eva should learn it too especially when we have some visitors here.
You did really well, Rudy! You are so clever!

The best thing about this trick is that it shows you can take the bed anywhere and your dog will always have a safe place to relax! Great focus, by the way! What a cute boy!

Great job, Rudy! My mommy tells me to go nite nite whenever she wants me to lie down, and she tells me to go to my "house," which is a crate I sometimes sleep in. But I much prefer to sleep on the floor, next to a door. ;) Woofs & hugs! ~Bailey
